Brewing news Mexico: Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma launches Sol Cero, first non-alcoholic beer produced in Mexico

As a result of a constant process of innovation and closeness to consumers, Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma (CCM), FEMSA Cerveza’s subsidiary, announced the launching of Sol Cero, the first non-alcoholic beer produced in Mexico, according to company’s news room, May 8.

“We have always encouraged programs that support the development of responsible lifestyles and contribute to preventing the abuse of alcohol consumption. Sol Cero is the first beer produced in Mexico that offers to the consumer another option for responsible consumption. With Sol Cero we give them the alternative to continue enjoying the flavor of a beer in the occasions where they rather have a non-alcoholic beverage”, said Jorge Luis Ramos, CEO of Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma.

Sol Cero is elaborated with the best ingredients and under a process that maintains the attributes of the flavor of a good beer, especially the refreshing characteristic of products within the Sol-brand family.

Its individual, non-returnable, 355ml transparent glass, screw-top bottle reflects its fresh and modern characteristics. Besides, Sol Cero is a light drink that counts with fewer calories than that of other non-alcoholic beers.

Among its top qualities are:

• Real beer flavor.
• Elaborated with selected hops, which gives it a well defined character, nice aroma, and a balanced bitterness.
• Low carbohydrate amount, with less than 6 grams per bottle of 12 oz.
• Minerals, vitamins and fibers obtained naturally.

“Sol Cero is elaborated with a special procedure where the alcohol level is reduced to the maximum point, considering its beer flavor profile to keep the other sensorial attributes such as body, smoothness, and bitterness. We are launching this new beer throughout Mexico, focused to adults that like the flavor and nutritional benefits of beer,” Ángel Abasolo, Marketing Director of Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma, stated.

The executive added that while drinking Sol Cero consumers get other benefits as well.

“It works as an alternative to alcoholic beverages, for those moments in which the consumer wants to get a refreshment and incorporate to the occasion by drinking a beverage without alcohol. It is also an excellent choice to go with food or just for any time in which the consumer decides not to drink alcohol, but still wants to enjoy the flavor of a good beer.”

Because it is a non-alcoholic beer, Sol Cero emerges as an ideal complement of social responsibility actions of Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma, which has been promoting responsible consumption in recent years through various programs such as Designated Driver, contributing to the reduction of car accidents and promoting responsible driving practices, and Responsible Lifestyle Program VIRE, especially designed for the youth to take conscience about the importance of developing a culture of responsibility in life.

Looking forward to closing the circle and creating greater conscience about the importance of contributing to the promotion of responsible and healthy lifestyles, the Responsible Waiter Program has been successfully implemented among waiters and managers of those establishments selling alcoholic beverages.

Sol Cero is produced by Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma in its facilities located in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and it is available in “six-packs” and 24-unit boxes.

Taking advantage of the synergies among FEMSA’s business units, Sol Cero has been launched across Mexico through the more than 4, 800 OXXO stores, starting April 26. Eventually, it will be distributed in other channels such as supermarkets and consumption centers in Mexico.

Today beer lovers have a new option: Sol Cero, which offers all the good traits of a beer, in a non-alcoholic beverage.

Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma, founded in 1890 in Monterrey, Nuevo León, is part of one of the most important business units of FEMSA: FEMSA Cerveza, which has operations in Mexico and Brazil. It stands out as the most innovative brewery in Mexico and an important exporter of beer to United States and selected countries in the world. It counts with important brands such as Tecate, Sol, Dos Equis, Carta Blanca, Superior, and Bohemia in Mexico, and Kaiser, Sol Pilsen, Xingui, and Bavaria Premium in Brazil.

Furthermore, FEMSA is a leading integrated beverage company in Latin America, with an outstanding brand portfolio of beer and soft-drinks. Its beverage platform is composed by FEMSA Cerveza; Coca-Cola FEMSA, the largest Coca-Cola bottler in Latin America, and second largest in the world; and FEMSA Comercio, which operates OXXO, the largest and fastest growing convenience store chain in Mexico, counting with more than 4,840 stores. FEMSA’s beverages are sold through more than two million points of sale, satisfying more than 200 million people in nine countries, including some of the most important cities in Latin America, such as Mexico City, Caracas, Bogota, Sao Paulo, and Buenos Aires.
